I friend Chris and I visited the Sarah P. Duke gardens over the weekend. It was very hot but the gardens had little nooks with beautiful plants to provide shade and a breeze. Gardening was never my strong suit but I definitely dreamed of having a garden half as well tended as Duke Gardens.
We were on Duke University's campus but we weren't able to see the Duke Chapel up close due to construction. The campus was huge, and looked like it could be a town setting for the Vampire Diaries. The architecture was subtly decorous and the closer you got the more details stood out. The entire area was shrouded in trees and enclosed but on the school grounds there was a whole maze of roads and buildings with people bustling around. I found out that some of the historic homes on the campus were actually used as buildings for separate majors, offices, etc. It was very different from most campuses I had seen before, which were comparatively more modern with their design.
Overall, it was interesting to explore more of Durham, where most areas were less urban than Raleigh. It's easy to get used to living in the city where everything is easily accessible.
